Since completing my MA in Contemporary Arts Practice five years ago, installation is often the mainstay of the work I produce, as this gives me the scope that I need to realise my intentions. The subject of my work is nearly always social comment focussing on those issues that affect women and children. I make my work to try to inform and raise awareness; just putting it out there and engaging with the audience to help them have a better understanding of issues that they may have no connection with. My practice always features the human form whether it is present or absent from the work with my main focus being women and children.

Artist Statement

Since completing my MA in Contemporary Arts Practice five years ago, installation is often the mainstay of the work I produce, as this gives me the scope that I need to realise my intentions. The subject of my work is nearly always social comment focussing on those issues that affect women and children. I make my work to try to inform and raise awareness; just putting it out there and engaging with the audience to help them have a better understanding of issues that they may have no connection with. My practice always features the human form whether it is present or absent from the work with my main focus being women and children.

It is important to me that this work always comes from some personal experience or knowledge; this helps to keeps the work authentic and past work has looked at the practice of International adoption, with the focus on commodification. Having been through the experience of adopting a child in this country with all its regulations and intrusions, I wanted to see what the experience was like in other countries, particularly those with less stringent regulations and the reading was not easy. . Research plays a big part in part in my work and I try, where possible, to connect with people involved in the issues I am commenting on.
