The Box paintings are collaged landscapes in both imagery and material, incorporating references from my practice in general, such as 18th-19th c landscape painting, cityscape demolition and recurring motifs like the Ford Escort van. Also added are residues and trimmings from the painting process, such as mixing palette daubs on cardboard turned into stage set like props and painting rags. They could be perceived as maquettes or studies for potential larger works, though they are self-contained entities of concentrated turbulence, exploring a range of gestural and stylistic motifs within my painting.
