The 16th Triennial of Tapestry; Breaching Borders. A Prestigious International Exhibition5th October 2019 - 31st August 2020
Location: The Central Museum of Textiles in Lodz, Poland.
The Lodz Triennial is the most Prestigious and Oldest (1972) International Textile Art Exhibition. In April 2019 Lucy Browns Artwork “A bit of skirt” was selected out of 585 worldwide applications and will be one of 55 works in the 16th Triennial. The Triennial attracts the world’s leading artists and Lucy is the sole Artist representing the UK in the Exhibition. On Saturday 5th October 2019 The 16th International Triennial of Tapestry; ‘Breaching Borders’ opened at The Central Museum of Textiles in Lodz, Poland. Lucy flew out to Poland on Tues 1st October 2019 to install ‘A bit of skirt’ in situ, stayed in Lodz for the opening weekend and flew back to the UK on Mon 7th October 2019. There are two other exhibitions which are part of the Triennial, these are ‘National Exhibition of Polish Tapestry’ curated by Janis Jefferies and ‘National Exhibition of Polish miniature Textiles’ curated by Anna Sliwa. It is a great honor to be part of this amazing Triennial, and to be exhibiting in such a remarkable, breathtaking venue. The Triennial is documented indepth in its own publication with supporting essays by Ann Coxon and Marta Kowalewska. The Triennial was due to end on the 15th March 2020 but the due to the threat caused by COVID-19, Central Museum of Textiles are keen to extend the exhibition until the end of August 2020, depending on what happens. The organisers are also putting together a programme of events including lectures, talks and discussions for the end of the exhibition to celebrate Textile Art. The Museum will announce more details in due course.
