Location: Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, County Durham, UK

Performances based on gender ambiguity and LGBTQ+ history will feature in the official opening of #Untitled10 2019 on the 11th of October at The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle.

Lady Kitt, One of the 10 Bowes Centre artists in residence, whose work is featured in the exhibition, is collaborating with the Newcastle based drag collective DGA to create a “Drag Takeover”

Artist and drag king, Kitt, has been inspired by James Pradier’s silver sculpture of Sappho, the painting of Amarillis Crowning Mirtillo and our founder Joséphine Bowes’ work and life in Paris. Their works will challenge the conventions of how gender and sexuality are traditionally portrayed in Museums and Kitt hopes to prompt conversations and thoughts surrounding queer history at both The Bowes Museum and other heritage settings.

Kitt’s other work for the exhibition includes a giant origami boat and queer shrine to the 5th century BC poet Sappho.
