Bush Song
2021watercolour and correction fluid on paper
In early 2021, soon after my mother, who suffers from Alzheimers and osteoporosis, fell and shattered her ankle. It was a traumatic time, as it was the height of lockdown and she was badly affected, and almost completely immobile for months. The ‘bush’ is based on a clump of growth by the Thames near my mother’s house, but refers to our common birthplace in South Africa, and childhood memories of walking with her in the veld.
