Who’d be an artist? Student fees, art schools and the future of Higher Education

The news last night made me ponder – yet again – how universities are going to make the case for Arts & Humanities degrees under the new fee regime.

Listening to David Willetts insist that universities should give students more information about contact hours and employment prospects (as if they don’t do that kind of thing already), I found myself additionally wondering about the future of our art schools.

The new Axis

I’m fresh back from maternity leave at a really exciting time for Axis – it’s great to be back and have a huge project to get my teeth into.

Spurred on by the news that we’ve made it and have ACE’s NPO status, the time is right to redevelop and redesign Axis. Our plan so far – to launch a new web platform in 2012.

But where to start? We’ve been discussing and planning for a while, backed up by a whole load of audience research so we’re doing well with producing a detailed specification for what the new Axis will be…
